Who We Are

The Hera Society – Therapeutic Programming for Adolescent Girls at Risk offers specialized services to girls experiencing challenges in their lives.

Hera supports girls aged 13 to 17 years old who have been identified as “at-risk” due to concerns such as failure to attend school, running away, drug and / or alcohol abuse, street involvement, and / or serious conflict with parents or peers. It is clear that these challenges can interfere with the girl’s achievement in the community and at school.

The agency’s dream is that all girls become strong healthy women. The holistic, multidisciplinary services Hera offers help girls at risk identify goals and develop skills that move each of them in a positive direction toward their own personal dreams. Our aim is that clients increase their resilience and learn a variety of new skills.

The programs – offered to girls and their families from all areas of Calgary – include experiential learning, in-home family support, mentoring and therapy. A unique educational program is offered by the Calgary Board of Education to girls who qualify for and require a specialized school setting. Other girls will benefit from our outreach program, which does not include the schooling programming.

At Hera, we recognize that a respectful, supportive environment is essential to the success of our clientele. It is fundamental that every girl and family feels safe, respected and cared for. Hera staff members are here to help the girls and their families develop skills to make positive changes in their lives.
